Vintage-ish design help!? Okay so I am trying to redo my room in a vintagey formal elegant kinda feel. And I am painting my walls with a tiffany blue color and lavender accents with a pearly white trim. And I was looking for some kind of cool wallpaper ideas and/or pattern ideas for my comforter. And I have this pattern in my head that is kinda like used in dining rooms and is like a vintagey formal design. it looks kinda like a chandelier but like more flowery I guess. If anyone could give me a link to a site with that kind of pattern for wallpaper or a stencil or something. I think doing some kind of stencil work would be awesome and I was wondering if anyone could give me tips on patterns to go with for a vintage formal feel. and I want the wallpaper if someone finds me one to either be a whiteish cream or a silver if that's possible. maybe even a paintable one? Thanks so much! Your help is GREATLY appreciated. And if you have any cool ideas on cool things to put in my room like decor wise that is also greatly appreciated! P.S. if anyone has any cool stencil ideas like for me to make or from a craft store that would be great too! I was thinking of using a stencil to make a border kind of on the wall if I can't find wallpaper. Thanks so much! Sorry I need so much help! lol. :]
This site has really great wallpaper designs that might be suitable for your design (the link shows a pink and black Jacobean floral that I had sent to someone else so you'd want to click on their other style tabs to search for patterns in your color ranges.) http://totalwallcovering.com/Category/Wallpaper/Damask-Wallpaper/p20938~Large-Jacobean-Damask-Wallpaper.aspx Doing an elegant wallpapered feature wall in a bedroom (usually behind the bed headboard) can be very effective. The leftover pieces of wallpaper can be used for accents, like covering a waste basket, creating mattes for framed pictures and on a desk or dresser under a glass top. Another good source for vintage accessories is thrift stores and antique shops. Old lamps can be refreshed with new shades and fancy mirrors and picture frames can be painted. Small carved side tables can be painted a pale color and highlighted with silver or gold accents. Vintage shops are also great sources for elegant dresser sets like fancy hand mirrors, perfume bottles and jewelry boxes. For bedding, scout the "off price" stores like Ross, TJ Maxx, Burlington and Marshalls home goods departments. I just picked up a beautiful queen duvet and shams set in a formal floral weave in tones of pale teal blue and milk chocolate tan for less than $23 (originally priced at over $160) at my local Ross. I have also recently bought very nice faux raw silk drapes at such stores for very good prices. They can be used on windows but also on a decorative rod on a wall above a bed for a semi-canopy look. I have seen floral stencil and wall cutout sets at Joann Fabric and Michaels Craft stores.
Bedouin and breakfast IN my travel kit I am carrying a copy of Lady Hester: Queen of the East by Lorna Gibb. The indomitable Hester Stanhope, an aristocratic trouser-wearing and waterpipe-smoking British virago who dubbed herself Queen of the Bedouin, was not intimately acquainted with the notion of modesty. She grandly described herself as "the oracle of the Arabs" as she moved in influential circles from Constantinople to Jerusalem in the 19th century, apparently swearing madly in various obtuse dialects.
For most people, making their beds can be a bit difficult. They have to put bed sheets, blankets, comforter, and other kinds of bedding. But some people, especially in European countries, use a duvet. This makes it easy for them to change their bedding. If you use a duvet, you can use it by itself, without using other kinds of bedding covers like blankets and sheets. One important aspect to look at when choosing a duvet is the duvet cover. A duvet cover looks like a giant pillow case that covers your duvet. Duvets are filled with down or soft materials to make them more comfortable. To change the look of your duvet, all you need to do is to replace the duvet cover. However, choosing the best duvet cover is not as easy as it seems. If you want some tips, read the paragraphs below about choosing the best cover for your duvet. Just like traditional comforters, duvets also come in different sizes—twin, queen, king, and California king. You have to select the right size for your duvet cover based on the size of the duvet. If you have a twin sized bedding, you do not want to choose a queen sized cover. It will be too big. One the other hand, choosing a small cover for a big duvet is also not good because the bedding will not fit into the cover, which means you just wasted your money and time. You should also check the thread count of the cover. When you see the term 'thread count' or 'TC' in the product's label, this means the number of thread per square inch. Some covers have a 100 TC while others can have more than 1000 TC. If you want a really soft cover for your bedding, something that is very comfortable, you should choose a higher TC. The higher the TC, the softer the cover will be. If you want a good quality cover, a 300 TC is okay. Another factor to consider is the cover closures. These covers are fastened using different kinds of closures like zippers, buttons, hook-n-loop strips, ties, and snaps. Make sure that the closures are of high quality. for example, the zippers should me sturdy and buttons should be sewn firmly. This way, when it is time for you to wash the cover, you can easily remove it form the bedding without having any trouble. And when you put it in the washer, you do not have to worry about the zipper getting stuck or the buttons becoming loose because they are not strong enough. The fabric is another important thing to consider when choosing a duvet cover. Bedding covers are made from different fabrics. The most common is cotton. Cotton is perfect for your bedding because it is very comfortable and soft. Since it is a natural material, it also 'breathes,' so to speak. You can also choose silk (which is very luxurious), faux suede, velvet (which is perfect for cold months), and a combination of two fabrics.
